About Youth Unmuted

Our Mission

It’s not uncommon to notice a rising unrest among our generation. For us at Youth Unmuted and many of our peers, it can feel like the world is getting decided for us, like those in charge are determining our future without letting us have a say.

But we do have a say; through our numbers and our voices we can make change. The hardest part is often the first step. Youth Unmuted was created by a group of friends at Hoover High School with the purpose of helping you with that first step.

Our Story

Youth Unmuted was created in 2026 as an independent resource for students in the Hoover area to find community and create change. We strive to create the best possible website for those who need a little boost on their journey with activism and youth leadership. Our focus is on community, and we feature articles and contributions from many members of the Hoover community.

Meet The Team

Samantha Mauter
Graphic Design

Hello all, my name is Sam!! I'm attending the University of Alabama this year pursuing graphic design. You can find me doing a variety of things around town as I enjoy water coloring at restaurants, going on walks with friends, and swimming. I am also part of the Million Dollar Band in the front ensemble. I'm super stoked to be on the team and give back to my high school community as it was handed down to me. You matter!

Colin Keppley
Website Creator, Manager, and Writer

Hi, my name is Colin, but you can also call me Jeremy (I don't know why you would though because that's not my name). I attend Hoover High School in the class of 2028, and I hope to study engineering in college. I spend my time either learning, creating, practicing sports, or gaming (we don't talk about the doomscrolling). I created this website in order to help students like me find a way to feel heard, and I hope to one day pass the torch to another eager young student. I love the Hoover community. Each and every one of us can help make it even better, and I hope to give back what my friends and community have given to me.
